Inspect-a-RACK
Inspect-a-RACK This video looks at the cause and effect of rack collapses. Remember that rack collapses don't just "happen" and they should never be caused by a single collision. Racks which have been designed to carry the applied loads and have been installed correctly should have the ability to withstand serious impacts without collapsing. Collapses usually only happen if the rack has been under-designed (for the loads applied), manufactured from sub-standard materials, has a high rate of pre-existing damage (especially where the damaged components are still loaded), or if the end-user has overloaded the rack. This video shows many instances of all of the above factors, from many different "leading" Australian brands (as well as international brands). Remember, compliance (and therefore safety) doesn't apply to the rack brand - it applies to the designed rack structure, as installed. Beware of claims from rack re-sellers saying "our brand meets the standards" or showing so-called engineer's certificates saying the same. Any engineer who knows anything about AS4084—1993 will tell you straight away that claims such as these are fundamentally false and cannot be backed-up. Only an engineer's certificate which details ALL of the applied loads YOU will be storing on the racks can be considered as credible. If you have any concerns as to whether of not your rack is compliant with AS4084—1993, or if you are unhappy or dissatisfied with the information given to you by your rack ...
