Stilliguamish Festival 2007: Day Two
Well, one fine weekend last August we headed out to River Meadows County Park just off Jordan Road outside Arlington. Why you ask? www.festivaloftheriver.com I said it was going to be super rad, and it totally was. My fascination with weird Northwest culture is pretty well documented, but this was just too good to pass up. The Stillaguamish Festival of the River, August 11th and 12th 2007. Put on each year by the Stillaguamish tribe ostensibly to raise awareness about environmental issues and tribal traditions, I personally remember it as being another summer music festival for the regional outcasts, hippies, punks, posers, craft-fair superstars, greyhaired bikers, and all other outlandish types that make this state cool. One year I saw an all-female blues band from Granite Falls by the name of Swamp Mama Johnson play. But if you're anything like me and your fascination with kitsch extends to both 90's radio rock AND 60's jam bands, check out this lineup. www.stillaguamish.nsn.us Highlights: Jefferson Starship. Big Brother and the Holding Company The 'We Were Only Freshmen' Verve Pipe Toad The Wet Sprocket The English Beat Quicksilver Messenger Service, Sort Of and Tom Constanten Supposedly From The Grateful Dead For Like 2 Years Back In The 60's So I don't know about you, but I don't know where else I would be able to see Jefferson Starship and the Verve Pipe at the same place.
